Despite this shift, ChatGPT remains the largest AI assistant with over 1.1 billion monthly users, though Gemini is rapidly gaining thanks to Google ecosystem integration. The report highlights that users are increasingly switching between assistants, influenced not only by features but also by brand trust, such as the spike in ChatGPT uninstalls after OpenAI’s DoD deal.
Monetization across the AI industry is accelerating, with total spending on AI apps projected to reach $4.2 billion in the first half of 2026. Claude stands out with the highest paid conversion rate at 13 percent, signaling strong user willingness to subscribe. At the same time, ChatGPT is expanding its advertising strategy and generating notable referral traffic for major retailers, although Amazon’s crawler restrictions have limited its impact there. These trends reflect a market that is beginning to mature: overall growth is slowing, yet total time spent in AI apps is still nearly doubling year over year.
