More Big Tech Executives Are Becoming Army Officers — and the Conflict‑of‑Interest Debate Is Growing
Three more prominent Silicon Valley executives have joined the US Army’s Detachment 201 as lieutenant colonels. The initiative, officially known as the Executive Innovation Corps, aims to bridge the gap between private-sector tech innovation and military modernization. The new members include Cloudflare’s CTO, a Sutter Hill Ventures managing director, and a former Reddit executive, joining existing cohort members from Meta and Palantir. However, the program has drawn heavy criticism over potential conflicts of interest, as these executives advise on military tech budgets while their respective firms compete for lucrative defense contracts. Although the Army claims a strict ethics and recusal framework is in place, watchdog groups are already calling for federal investigations.
