Mozilla Bets on Big Redesign and AI Tools to Revive Firefox

Mozilla has unveiled an ambitious new roadmap for Firefox as the browser continues to lose millions of users each month, dropping from 5.88 percent to 3.79 percent market share in a year. The plan includes a major Nova design refresh, improved PDF editing tools, tab grouping on mobile, and long‑requested customizable keyboard shortcuts. Firefox is also expanding its privacy focus with built‑in VPN features for mobile and basic ad and tracker blocking on iOS without add‑ons. Upcoming releases will introduce optional AI tools like Quick Answers, while maintaining Mozilla’s philosophy of user control over AI features. Technical upgrades such as HDR video support on Windows and Linux and experimental JPEG XL support aim to modernize the browser. Despite these improvements, analysts warn the updates may not be enough to reverse Firefox’s long‑term decline.
