Microsoft is raising global Xbox console prices starting August 1, following Apple’s own hardware price hikes announced earlier the same day. The increases range from 100 to 150 dollars depending on the model, with the Xbox Series X and Series S both seeing significant jumps, and the 2TB model being discontinued. Microsoft attributes the changes to soaring memory and storage costs, which it says are now more than 2.5 times higher and could double again by late 2027. The company is offering financing options and exploring programs for lower cost refurbished consoles to soften the impact on consumers. The price hikes highlight how the AI boom is driving up component costs across the tech industry, affecting gaming hardware alongside other electronics.
