Lenovo has begun shipping some ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL laptops with SSDs from Chinese NAND supplier YMTC, signaling that Chinese-made storage is entering mainstream business notebooks. The tested model uses a compact 512GB M.2 2242 PCIe 4.0 SSD, which delivers modern sequential speeds but falls behind competitors in 4K performance and throttles under sustained load. Despite these limitations, the drive remains adequate for everyday office tasks. The shift comes as global demand for NAND and DRAM surges due to AI data center growth, tightening supply and pushing PC makers to diversify beyond traditional suppliers like Samsung and Western Digital. Lenovo’s adoption of YMTC suggests Chinese NAND is becoming a practical option for cost balancing in mid-range laptops.
