French intelligence drops US-made AI tools amid rising tech independence concerns
France has announced that its domestic intelligence agency will replace Palantir’s AI data tools with technology from French company ChapsVision to avoid strategic dependence on US providers. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu emphasized that France must rely on its own AI models, especially as the US tightens access to advanced systems like Anthropic’s latest model. The transition will take several years due to Palantir’s renewed long-term contract from 2025. ChapsVision, already selected by Germany’s internal security service, aims to become a key provider for critical data processing across European public agencies. The move aligns with broader European concerns about surveillance risks, data protection, and reliance on US tech giants. France is also investing €655 million in AI infrastructure and deploying government chatbots built on Mistral AI models.
