Two U.S. Nationals Jailed for Assisting North Korean Workers in Job Fraud
Two U.S. nationals were sentenced to 18 months in prison for running “laptop farms” that enabled North Korean IT workers to secure remote jobs at nearly 70 American companies using stolen identities. The workers performed their duties through company‑issued laptops and remote access tools, giving them the same level of access a legitimate employee would have. While there is no indication they carried out hacking activities, the setup allowed sanctioned North Korean personnel to operate inside U.S. companies and channel over $1.1 million in earnings overseas. The schemes also caused more than $1.5 million in remediation costs for affected firms.
