Meta smart glasses lose unlimited access to key audio feature
Meta has introduced a controversial monthly usage cap on Conversation Focus, one of the most praised AI features for its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The tool, which isolates and amplifies voices in noisy settings, will now be restricted to just three hours per month for free users, breaking down to roughly six minutes a day. Even users who subscribe to the paid Meta One Premium tier will see their allowance capped at fifteen hours per month, with no rollover option for unused time. The restriction has drawn heavy scrutiny from tech experts because tests show the feature works entirely offline using on-device processing and beamforming technology. This has sparked widespread debate over whether Meta is facing hidden server-side infrastructure demands or simply forcing a paid recurring subscription onto hardware capabilities consumers already bought.
