Google reports exponential rise in Chrome bug fixes driven by AI

Google says its internal AI systems helped the company fix more Chrome security vulnerabilities in June than in the previous two years combined. The latest two Chrome releases patched 1,072 bugs, surpassing the 1,036 fixes delivered across 23 versions over the past two years. Google attributes the surge to LLM-powered automated vulnerability discovery, which it says has transformed cybersecurity into an industrial-scale process. Microsoft is seeing a similar trend, reporting a record 570 patched flaws this month thanks to its own AI tools, while Apple’s bug-fix numbers remain relatively stable. Google argues that AI allows defenders to outpace attackers by identifying and patching issues before they can be exploited.
