The FCC has granted Netgear a conditional approval that effectively exempts it from the recent US ban on foreign-made consumer routers, giving the company a temporary monopoly on new router sales and updates until October 1, 2027. While the ban blocks all foreign-made routers from releasing new models or certain software updates, Netgear is currently the only company allowed to continue operating normally. The approval requires Netgear to present a plan for shifting manufacturing to the US, though details remain unclear. Until other companies receive similar approval, Netgear holds a unique and dominant position in the American router market.
