Claude Fable 5 Could Return Within Days as US Eases Restrictions
A new report suggests that Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 model, which was taken offline due to a recent White House export control directive, may be restored within days. The US government previously restricted access to Anthropic’s Mythos‑class models after reports indicated that Fable 5’s safeguards were easy to bypass. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has already cleared Mythos 5 for limited use by trusted partners, signaling a shift toward loosening restrictions. Axios reports that negotiations improved after Anthropic replaced CEO Dario Amodei at the table with other team members, easing tensions with the administration. Fable 5’s return would mark a major step toward reopening Anthropic’s most advanced publicly available model, which was pulled offline just three days after launch.
