Apple unveils the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone
Apple has officially entered the foldable phone market with the launch of the iPhone Duo, its first foldable handset. The device features a 7.6‑inch inner display and a 5.4‑inch cover display, wrapped in a compact, passport‑sized titanium design. Starting at $1,999 for 256GB, preorders open on October 16, with release scheduled for October 23. Apple says the Duo is its thinnest iPhone when unfolded, supports Apple Pencil, and uses Touch ID instead of Face ID. The phone includes a 48‑megapixel main camera and a 48‑megapixel ultrawide camera, with support for 4K 120fps video and dual capture in FaceTime. Powered by the A20 Pro chip, the Duo aims to compete with foldables from Samsung, Google, Motorola, and major Chinese brands. Analysts expect Apple’s entry to significantly boost the foldable market, with IDC forecasting over 17 million foldable iPhones shipped by 2027 and Apple nearing 40 percent global market share next year.
