Anthropic says Opus 5 nearly matches Fable 5 at half the price
Anthropic has released Opus 5, a major update to its former flagship model that now approaches the performance of Fable 5 at half the cost. The company says Opus 5 significantly improves knowledge work, complex coding and scientific research tasks, outperforming previous Opus versions. It also introduces stronger resistance to manipulation and shows the lowest rate of deceptive behavior among Anthropic’s models. Unlike Mythos, Opus 5 was not trained on cyber exploitation tasks, making it safer while still useful for identifying vulnerabilities. Anthropic also relaxed many of the restrictive safeguards found in Fable, reducing classifier interventions by about 85 percent. With competitive pricing and fewer limitations, Opus 5 is positioned as the model most users will rely on for everyday work.
