Web Designers Fear AI More Than Shrinking Client Budgets

A new 2026 study from hosting provider 20i shows that 76% of web designers now see AI as the biggest threat to their profession, surpassing shrinking budgets and rising costs. Many report losing clients to AI tools that promise instant, low-cost websites, while 89% say customers underestimate the real value of professional design. However, industry leaders argue that designers who embrace AI can use it to accelerate workflows, generate custom pages instantly, and shift their value toward strategy and expertise rather than manual production.
