US bans new Chinese humanoid robot imports over national security concerns
The Trump administration has announced a ban on new imports of foreign made humanoid and advanced robotic devices, citing unacceptable national security risks. Many of these robots are produced in China, which has rapidly become the world’s largest manufacturer of humanoid machines and a major competitor in robotics and AI. The FCC also banned foreign made power inverters used in data centers and solar infrastructure, warning they could enable remote shutdowns, data theft or cyberattacks. Existing robot models already approved for sale are not affected, but new imports will be blocked under the FCC’s Covered List. China condemned the move as politicizing trade and warned it would take necessary countermeasures, while the US continues tightening controls on Chinese technology amid concerns over espionage, AI competition and supply chain vulnerabilities. The ban arrives as Chinese firms aggressively push humanoid robots into factories and homes, outpacing US rivals like Tesla and Boston Dynamics.
