The company claimed its Full Self‑Driving system is up to ten times safer than human drivers, but the figures rely on flawed comparisons, including hypothetical scenarios where every car on US roads is replaced by an FSD‑equipped Tesla. Tesla also compared only serious crashes in its own fleet to broad national crash statistics, a mismatch that safety experts say artificially inflates performance. Regulators in Sweden and the Netherlands have expressed concern, especially as the Dutch authority leads the EU‑wide assessment of FSD. The controversy adds to existing doubts about speeding, icy‑road behavior and the system’s name, which some officials argue oversells its capabilities. With approval already uncertain, Tesla’s credibility issues may further weaken its case in Europe.
