SpaceX has reportedly shown investors a prototype of a slim AI device that’s thinner than an iPhone, according to The Wall Street Journal. The prototype runs on a proprietary operating system, uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, and integrates AI technology from Elon Musk’s xAI. While the project is still in its early stages, it could represent Musk’s ambition to unify his companies’ software, hardware, and services under one ecosystem — linking xAI, Starlink, and X (formerly Twitter). The device may not be a traditional smartphone but rather a dedicated AI gadget focused on privacy, encrypted communication, and direct Starlink connectivity. Musk has previously expressed frustration with Apple and Google’s control over app distribution, suggesting he might build an alternative phone if X were ever banned from major app stores. Whether this prototype evolves into a real product or remains experimental, it signals SpaceX’s growing interest in consumer AI hardware.
