Nvidia and AMD may delay next-gen gaming GPUs to 2028
New leaks suggest that AMD and NVIDIA have pushed their next-generation gaming GPUs to 2028 due to severe DRAM shortages and overwhelming demand for AI hardware.
Reliable insider Kepler_L2 claims that NVIDIA’s Rubin architecture and AMD’s RDNA 5 lineup will skip 2027 entirely, marking one of the longest gaps between flagship GPU generations. Memory manufacturers are prioritizing HBM and enterprise DRAM, making GDDR7 scarce and expensive, which has even jeopardized mid-cycle refreshes like the rumored RTX 50 Super.
NVIDIA is heavily focused on AI platforms, while AMD faces similar constraints but plans to release one mid-range RDNA 5 GPU, the AT2, in 2027. AT2 is expected to feature around 64 Compute Units and serve as a successor to the RX 9070 XT. RDNA 5 is rumored to bring major architectural upgrades, including improved ray tracing and ML accelerators.
The delay means current GPU families like RTX 50 and RX 9000 will remain top-tier for at least two more years. Pricing may stabilize, but memory shortages could keep costs high.
