New Windows update model aims to stop forced restarts for good
Microsoft is testing a redesigned Windows 11 update system that lets users defer updates for up to 35 days and then reset that pause repeatedly with no stated limit. While not a full disable switch, it gives users far more control over when updates install, addressing long‑standing frustration with forced restarts. The update also improves the power menu by keeping standard shutdown and restart options visible even when updates are pending. These changes are currently limited to Windows Insiders, and Microsoft has not confirmed if or when they will reach all users.
