The AI lab currently pays a massive 1.25 billion dollars per month to lease 300 megawatts of compute from xAI's Colossus 1 data center under a contract lasting through 2029. Musk praised Anthropic as the current leader in AI, noting that no competitor has released a model as capable as their Mythos or Fable 5 systems. He cited Tesla's open-source patent pledge and SpaceX's fair treatment of competing satellite companies as proof of his cooperative style. However, legal experts note that while the multi-billion-dollar deal benefits SpaceX financially, hosting Anthropic's computing infrastructure gives Musk's team unprecedented operational visibility into a core rival.
