Mistral bets on ‘build-your-own AI’ as it takes on OpenAI, Anthropic in the enterprise

French AI startup Mistral has announced Mistral Forge, a platform that lets enterprises train custom AI models from scratch on their own data — going beyond the fine-tuning and RAG approaches most competitors offer. The company, which says it's on track to surpass $1 billion in annual recurring revenue, is doubling down on enterprise clients while OpenAI and Anthropic dominate the consumer space. Forge comes with forward-deployed engineers who embed directly with customers, and early partners include Ericsson, the European Space Agency, ASML, and several government agencies.
