Meta Launches AI Coding Tool Designed for Cost-Effective Software Development
Meta has officially entered the AI coding harness market with the beta release of its new terminal-based tool, Muse Code. The AI agent is designed to assist software developers by executing complex, end-to-end engineering tasks across large repositories. According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the agent handles planning, code generation, and result validation without modifying the working directory. Powered by Meta's Muse Spark model, the tool relies on parallel sub-agents operating in isolated worktrees to execute multiple jobs simultaneously. Meta demonstrated this capability by having the system build six distinct game features concurrently without encountering collisions. The initiative aims to offer a direct and cost-effective competitor to established platforms like Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. Meta's AI leadership highlighted that affordability makes Muse Code an appealing alternative for diverse developer workflows. This release marks a key expansion of Meta's AI strategy as it moves beyond advertising into specialized developer tools.
