Instagram will start notifying parents when their teenager repeatedly searches for self-harm or suicide content — sending alerts via text, email, WhatsApp, or in-app notification, rolling out next week in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. The move comes directly in the wake of Zuckerberg testifying in court about the platform's failures to protect minors, where he admitted wishing the company had acted sooner. It's a step forward, but a narrow one — the feature only flags search attempts, not the algorithmic recommendations that critics say are the bigger problem.
