Instagram is introducing stricter rules for AI influencers by requiring profiles built around fully artificial personas to display a clear AI-generated label. Accounts that present synthetic individuals as real people without using the label may receive reduced visibility in Explore and other recommendation surfaces. The policy responds to complaints from users who unknowingly followed AI-generated personalities that appeared to be human. Instagram says the rule will not affect real creators who use AI tools for editing, enhancement or other production tasks. Accounts that previously used Instagram’s older AI creator label will need to confirm whether the new designation still applies to them. Creators who believe their accounts were penalized incorrectly can appeal through Instagram’s Account Status system. The update reflects growing pressure on social platforms to make artificial content easier to identify. It also highlights the tension between Meta’s push for transparency and its increasing reliance on AI-driven recommendation systems.
