iFixit Tears Down the Trump Phone and Finds a Chinese-Made HTC Inside
An iFixit teardown of the T1 by Trump Mobile has revealed that the device marketed as "proudly American" is almost identical to the HTC U24 Pro, a 2024 phone from a Taiwanese brand produced in China. The differences are largely cosmetic: a gold finish, a slightly redesigned camera block, and a marginally larger battery, offset by slower 30W charging compared to the HTC's 60W. The phone is labeled "assembled in the USA," a designation that falls short of the FCC's stricter "made in America" standard. iFixit concludes that the T1 is at least fairly priced compared to its HTC equivalent, noting that the only things buyers give up are fast charging and, in their words, their dignity.
