HP says RAM now makes up 35% of its PC costs — nearly double the 15-18% from just a year ago — as AI infrastructure buildout devours the global memory supply. The company confirmed price increases are coming, with Samsung issuing similar warnings about AI-induced memory shortages. It's one of the clearest examples yet of how the AI arms race is spilling over into consumer hardware: Micron has already abandoned its consumer brands to focus on B2B, and if memory costs don't stabilize, the era of affordable PCs may be taking a pause.
