Google Cloud has unveiled its eighth-generation custom AI chips, splitting the lineup into the TPU 8t for model training and the TPU 8i for inference. These new Tensor Processing Units promise up to 3x faster training and 80% better performance per dollar compared to previous versions, aiming to reduce energy consumption and costs. While the move strengthens Google's internal infrastructure, the company continues to partner with Nvidia, planning to integrate the upcoming Vera Rubin chips later this year.
