Ex‑Meta engineer accused of stealing 30,000 private Facebook photos
A former Meta engineer in London is under police investigation for allegedly downloading around 30,000 private Facebook photos using a self‑built tool designed to bypass internal security checks. Meta says it detected the breach over a year ago, fired the employee immediately, notified affected users, and referred the case to law enforcement. The Metropolitan Police arrested the man in late 2025 on suspicion of unauthorised access to computer material, and he is currently out on bail. The incident adds to Meta’s ongoing history of security lapses, including major fines for previous data breaches and mishandling of user credentials.
