European Regulators Demand System Level Access for Third Party AI on Android

The European Commission has concluded its investigation into Google’s AI integration on Android, declaring that the system must become more open to third‑party AI services. Under the Digital Markets Act, Google may be required to give competitors equal access to system‑level features currently reserved for Gemini, such as proactive suggestions and app control. Google calls the move “unwarranted intervention,” arguing it threatens privacy and device autonomy. The EU’s final decision is expected by July 27, and failure to comply could lead to fines of up to 10% of Google’s global revenue.
