Developers furious after VS Code credits Copilot for their work

VS Code briefly added “Co‑authored by: Copilot” to Git commits by default, even when users had disabled all AI features. The change, introduced through a pull request, caused Copilot to be credited for work it did not generate, raising concerns that developers could appear to be using unapproved AI tools. Microsoft engineer Dmitriy Vasyura apologized, calling it an unintended mistake, though backlash grew as users accused Microsoft of pushing Copilot too aggressively. The feature has since been reverted, but the incident adds to growing distrust around Microsoft’s AI integrations.
