Claude Fable 5 moves to usage billing temporarily due to overwhelming demand
Anthropic has clarified that the removal of its most powerful model, Claude Fable 5, from standard subscription plans next week is not a permanent decision. The model was recently restored globally following the lifting of US government export controls, causing a massive surge in user demand. To manage this infrastructure strain, Anthropic is shifting Fable 5 to usage-based credit billing after July 7, restricting its availability for Pro, Max, and Team tiers. However, a lead engineer confirmed on X that the company fully intends to restore the model as a standard subscription benefit once server capacity stabilizes. For now, users heavily reliant on Fable 5 capabilities will have to pay extra via consumption credits until the capacity constraints are resolved.
