ChatGPT removes text chat limits for all free users
OpenAI is removing all limits on text-based chats for free ChatGPT users, marking a major shift as the platform surpasses 1 billion weekly users. The new GPT-5.6 Luna model becomes the default for Free and Go tiers, offering improved reasoning and significantly fewer factual errors compared to GPT-5.5. Free and Go users will also receive a new Think button that activates higher reasoning power for complex queries, though limits for files, images, voice, and image generation remain. Plus and Pro subscribers gain access to an upgraded GPT-5.6 Sol model designed for faster, more compact responses in tasks like research, planning, and writing. These paid tiers also receive a thinking slider that lets users adjust how much cognitive effort the model applies to each answer. Internal evaluations show substantial accuracy improvements, with factual errors reduced by 62 percent for Luna and 68 percent for Sol. The enhanced Sol model is available immediately, while unlimited text chats and the Think button will roll out to Free and Go users next week.
