Canada launches billion dollar plan to build sovereign AI

Canada has launched a CA$1 billion national strategy called AI for All aimed at building sovereign Canadian AI and reducing reliance on US based technologies. The plan allocates major funding to help local businesses adopt AI and to strengthen domestic compute, cloud, data, and talent infrastructure. Ottawa frames the initiative as a push for technological independence, aligning with similar sovereignty efforts in Europe and other allied nations wary of political and economic dependence on American tech giants. Canada has already formed partnerships with more than a dozen countries to support this shift, though experts note the path to true AI sovereignty will be challenging.
