Apple warned xAI in January that the Grok app would be removed from the App Store unless it stopped generating non‑consensual sexualized deepfakes, including images of women and minors. Internal correspondence shows Apple rejected xAI’s initial moderation fixes as insufficient and demanded stronger safeguards before approving a later version. The issue surfaced after U.S. senators pressed Apple and Google to enforce their own rules against offensive and exploitative content. Despite new protections, NBC News reports that some users can still bypass Grok’s filters by adjusting their prompts.
