A suite of government hacking tools targeting iPhones is now being used by cybercriminals

Security researchers have discovered that a powerful iPhone exploit toolkit, originally used by a government customer for surveillance, is now being used by cybercriminals. The toolkit, known as Coruna, can compromise iPhones simply by tricking users into visiting a malicious website and relies on a chain of 23 vulnerabilities to bypass Apple’s security protections. Researchers believe the tools may have leaked from a government hacking framework and are now circulating in a growing “secondhand exploits” market. The case highlights the ongoing risk that state-developed cyber weapons can escape into the wild and later be used in criminal attacks.
