A new app alerts you if someone nearby is wearing smart glasses
A new Android app called Nearby Glasses alerts users if someone nearby is wearing Bluetooth-enabled smart glasses from companies like Meta or Snap. The app scans for manufacturer-specific Bluetooth identifiers and sends notifications when it detects compatible devices, aiming to counter concerns about covert recording and privacy violations. Developer Yves Jeanrenaud says the app was inspired by reports of smart glasses being used in controversial surveillance situations. While the app may generate false positives and is currently limited to Android, it highlights growing public resistance to always-recording wearable technology.
