A 49‑day macOS bug is silently crippling your Mac
Researchers have discovered a macOS bug that causes Macs to lose the ability to create new internet connections after exactly 49.7 days of continuous uptime. The issue stems from a 32‑bit time counter overflow, which prevents macOS from properly closing old network connections, eventually filling all available ports and overloading the CPU. Existing connections continue to work, making the slowdown confusing and difficult to diagnose. The only current fix is to restart the Mac before reaching the 49‑day threshold, though a software workaround is in development.
